God Coloured Glasses

Have you ever felt like a little a fish in a big pond? It’s challenging to feel that you are so small compared to the people or situations around you.

We all go through seasons when we feel powerless. We struggle to understand what we could do to bring a victory to our situation.

When I was growing up my career aspiration was to be a mum! This was all I ever wanted to be. At the age of 23 I feared this would never become a reality when I realized that falling pregnant was not as easy as I thought! There was a moment in time where I realised that this was something I could not control, I could not make it happen and it made me feel very small and powerless indeed.

In Numbers 13 we read about the Israelite spies being sent into the land God had promised them to spy it out. They returned with two very different reports. Two of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, saw the beauty of the land and were ready to step into it yet the rest were overcome by the obstacles before them. They saw themselves as grasshoppers compared to the enormous task in front of them.

Do you see yourself as a grasshopper?

Do you feel as though your life is filled with situations that seem impossible to change? It might be financial, the bills are mounting up and you don’t know where the funds are going to come from. It might be in relationships, feeling there is so much brokenness that things can never be repaired. It might be in your mind, where the thoughts and feelings you are struggling with never seem to let up. It’s seems like it is one step forward and ten steps backwards!

I have felt like a grasshopper plenty of times. I have felt that a wave is hurtling towards me and it wont be long before I am going to be completely overcome.

It is in these moments I know I have taken my eyes off God and focused on myself. I have forgotten the incredible greatness of His power.

The two spies, Joshua and Caleb had not taken their eyes off God. They saw the land through God coloured glasses! The others did not! They looked at the land through the frailty of human eyes and in that light it all seemed too much to bare.

Are you seeing your life through God coloured glasses?

You will know if you are because in spite of all that is swirling around you, you will experience peace and assurance because you know that nothing is impossible for God, Luke 1:37.

In Ephesians 1:19 Paul is praying that the people at Ephesus will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for them.

Do you understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for you?

Paul reminds them that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him at the right hand of God in heavenly places is available to those who believe in Him.

When we take hold of this truth it allows us to look at any situation with the knowledge that God is powerful and that He can work in mighty ways to completely change things.

The giants in the land weren’t intimidating to Joshua and Caleb because they knew that through Gods power the impossible can be made possible.

This is true for your life as well.

Ask God to give you a vision for how He sees the giants in your life. When you choose to see your life through God coloured glasses you are going to experience peace and be able to walk through the land of giants with confidence.

Lord, Help me to see my life through Your eyes. In those situations where I feel hopeless will You remind me of the incredible greatness I have in You. Amen
